About MedAu

Medicine Australia supports a number of mailing lists to facilitate communication by email between doctors with similar interests.

By subscribing to these lists, each day you will receive by email the messages sent to the list by other subscribers, and be able to send a message to all other subscribers.

The lists currently available are -

  • Clinial - This is for clinical discussion. A number of specialists are subscribed to this list and we will endeavour to have all clinical queries answered by a specialist in the field. Submit case reports, difficult clinical issues and general management enquiries to this list, and give your response to others questions and comments. This list is suitable for all doctors, and is of particular use to rural and remote practioners.
  • Computing - This list discusses all issues related to computing. Seek help when confronted with a system problem, a programming dilemma, a software query, or a purchasing decision. Computing novices in particular are invited to join, as well as those with a deal of experience to asssit others.
  • General - The General mailing list is moderated, which means that messages posted to the list are first checked by a listmaster to ensure they are appropriate. A monthly posting, MedAu Mumble details updates to the MedicineAu Web Site.

  • Genie- For users of Genie software
  • MDW- For users of Medical Director and Pracsoft

Subscribing

The mailing list subscriptions are maintained by listserver@medicineau.net.au.

You may subscribe by using these forms, by Majorcool, or by email

Checking your subscriptions with Majorcool

You can subscribe / unsubscribe and check other options using the Majorcool mailing list tool. Click
here.

Subscribing by email -

When subscribing, unsubscribing or seeking help, remember that you should send email to listserver@medicineau.net.au, not to the relevant discussion list.

To subscribe send an email to listserver@medicineau.net.au with

SUBSCRIBE ListName in the body of the message.

eg SUBSCRIBE MUMBLE

SUBSCRIBE COMPUTING

SUBSCRIBE CLINICAL

When sending a message to listserver, please do not be polite, and do not include your email "signature". Mailserver mail is answered by a robot who is confused by "please", Thank you and pithy quotations.

Digests -

All lists can be received in Digest form or as individual messages. If subscribing to a digest, the messages for each day are collated into one email message - otherwise they are sent individually. Digest is a recommended option.

To tell the mailserver to send you messages in digest form, send this message in the body of an email to listserver@medicineau.net.au

SUBSCRIBE ListName-digest

eg SUBSCRIBE MUMBLE-DIGEST, SUBSCRIBE COMPUTING-DIGEST, SUBSCRIBE CLINICAL-DIGEST

Other Options

To receive instructions on ordering digests, seeing all subscribers, unsubscribing, and other options , send the word

HELP in the body of a message to listserver@medicineau.net.au .

New Lists

MedicineAu would be happy to maintain a list on any topic which generates enough interest - eg, Sports Medicine, Palliative Care, Politics, QLD medicine, Aboriginal Health, Surgery, Remote Medicine.

If you would like to nominate a subject , send a message to the general list. If ten or more expressions of support are posted to the list, we will establish a list on that subject.

Mailing List Etiquette

Feel free to post whatever message you like to any mailing list. Remember, however, that each message is sent to all subscribers. If your message is directed to just one person, please reply directly to them, unless you feel it is of general relevance.

These lists are fairly quiet and always polite. Please don't be afraid to participate.

If you have trouble, or wish to make a comment, email the list administrator, tlembke@medicineau.net.au

To subscribe, complete the form at The GPCG home page is at http://www.gpcg.org

There are a number of "Humour " mailing lists that forward jokes.
SueNoTV rates them as follows -

The Cameron Column. This is my personal favorite. Comes out twice a month. It is essay-type humor, like you might expect from Dave Barry. No downloads. Never offensive, usually hilarious. To subscribe, send the words subscribe cameron to majordomo@cwe.com. You'll love it!

Comedy. Very funny, sometimes off color. Not a lot of volume, sort of a joke of the day format. To subscribe, send the words subscribe comedy to majordomo@fatboy.geog.unsw.edu.au

GIGGLES is back on the air. You get high volume, with several jokes a day. The subject line contains a rating, in case you want to skip the bawdy ones. To receive GIGGLES, send SUBSCRIBE GIGGLES followed by your real, not e-mail, name to LISTSERV@listserv.vt.edu.

HUMOR. Has download files sometimes. Lots of jokes, some of them dirty and racist, some hilarious. I usually skip the ones that look like I won't like them. To subscribe, send subscribe HUMOR followed by your real name to LISTSERV@UGA.CC.UGA.EDU.

MedicineAu would be interested to hear about other mailing lists.
