Installation cost and ongoing costs

Pracsoft - very reasonable initial and support costs - flexible. Medical Director is free. The cost of PracSoft is less than $1500 for our 8 doctor site. $1000 if you take off the HIC rebate.

Set Up time and ongoing time

We have been gradually cutting over from a dumb terminal system (Pick Medrecord) to a Windows95 network over months. Staff training to be familiar with Windows was the major hurdle. We set up PracSoft and Medical Director on an NT Server with a combination of NT and Win95 workstations. The network did not take a long time to set up but the configuration of the databases and printers did. It pays to have a savvy tech when you are doing this.
Level of Support received:

Excellent PracSofi is excellent. We had some difficulties with database locks in the first week. Peter Murphy rewrote the software to rectify this over the week-end and we had the problem fixed in four days. (It pays to have an Internet connection.)

Functionallity and benefits
The integration of the PracSoft appointments module with the Waiting Room and Medical Director minimises duplicating information. We are still refining our system and this will take several more months but it will minimse the work of our front desk staff.
Improvements
The only things I could ask for, are the things that depend on Australia wide standards like HL7 messaging. Some minor banking bugs persist but the problems are being addressed.
To whom would you recommend this software? Other Comments.
Any GP whether solo or group. The easy functionality of billing, enabling easy generation and tracking of Gap Payments, with automatic generation of PC1 claim forms, which can be posted by your own staff, means that it is painless to move gently away from Bulk Billing PracSoft is an excellent program and is great value for money.I would recommend it to anyone.
