What functions does your system perform in your practice?
Billing:
Appointments:
Recalls:
Patient Health Summmaries Yes
Patient records: Partial
Prescription writing: Yes
Pathology Downloading: Yes
Other functions -
Scanners, Digital camera's, Internet, CD readers and writers all an integral part of the practice I like the pediatric percentile facility, the BP/CVS facility calculatorseg. EDC, spirometery, weight, cardiovascular risk calc, diabetic data record

Installation cost and ongoing costs

Medical Director was great in all respects.

Medical Director = free + $150 p.a.

Frequent up-grades to keep abreast of technology. Use PC clones and have a good "computer guru" Currently $150/yr/practice Hate to even think of it Hardware=approx $3500

Set Up time and ongoing time

Medical Director is fairly intuitive We have been gradually cutting over from a dumb terminal system (Pick Medrecord) to a Windows95 network over months. Staff training to be familiar with Windows was the major hurdle.

A LOT OF TIME!!. -but it is a hobby as well. Little setup on Win95 but on our Win 3.11 system recurrent errors and GPF's have frequently reqd. support. 10 minutes every 3 months Hours to sort out networking problems (hardware) Miniscule took months mainly because of isolation (middle of central queensland)

Level of Support received:

Medical Director support is free and excellent.

Excellent

Not wonderful.
Excellent Excellant. Excellent Top Class excellent

Functionallity and benefits
Excellent. The only things I could ask for, are the things that depend on Australia wide standards like HL7 messaging.
Med Director getting better each version Excellant functionality and constantly evolving. Well thought out Its still quicker to write a single script. Best use is for long term patients on multiple therapies.Percentile and BP units fabulous, with lots of good patient interaction. *excellent for recording medsin particular for patients with multiple meds
*printout of scripts great
*being able to show patients thier risk status as graphic printout very helpful
*calculators very good at keeping track of patients wt.,PEFR etc etc -> can show patients effect of exercise puffers etc

Improvements?
I would really like to be able to print percentile charts. The merge function is not yet good enough to allow full integration between databases in branch surgeries. *patient handouts could be much improved
To whom would you recommend this software?Other Comments?
Medical Director for Windows has a few problems with it's database. The programme is slow and unreliable when large amounts of data are entered (we have Pentium 133's with 16 MB Ram). Medical Director (DOS) is fast, reliable and much less "mouse dependant". We find the use of the keyboard much faster than the use of a mouse in the consulting room, but we feel the developers will probably concentrate more on Windows Medical Director to any GP Numerous annoying minor bugs, inadequate level of configurability, and large memory/resource consumption; otherwise still best script package I've seen. Very responsive to requests for new features . I would recommend it to all GPs some specialists My partner, who is a Luddite. recommend to any GP or even specialists
