About MedAu

Jam Software
Reviewed by Danny Silver   JAM Software pioneered medical records software for the Macintosh way back in 1986 only a short while after the Mac was born! Their medical records software, M.E.D.ôPatient, is one of the easiest packages on the market and is the only one which allows both text and graphics to be stored in an individual patient medical record. It allows users to easily customize the way their records are kept, the letters, forms, and checklists they create and use every day and indeed it can be used by all healthcare professionals, not just doctors. Information is entered as text in free format (anyway you like) with virtually no constraints. One can categorize (or "flag") selected text as belonging to major categories such as "treatment", "diagnosis", etc and then the flagged data can be instantly ported to your preformatted letters, forms, etc. One can "draw" onto human outlines at various magnifications to record rashes, wounds, marks, deformities, etc and then refer to these graphics for visual comparison later on. All information entered into a "consultation" is locked in and archived once the patient's record is closed so as to prevent subsequent alterations, thus fulfilling medicolegal requirements. Password protection is incorporated so as to prevent unauthorised access to medical records and various levels of protection are possible. Using Apple Remote Access or Timbuktu it is possible to access one's medical records from elsewhere using one's laptop or another computer within a hospital. Overall, this software deserves a lookin, not just because it is currently Macintosh-only but because it is excellent!   Danny Silver
