The Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP), Health Records section has a recommended manual filing system for medical records:

  • The system is based on an A4 size.
  • The RACGP sells the system.
  • 70-75% of GPs, Specialists etc use it.
The RACGP sells the Arnos Instant Indexing System, consisting of coloured cardboard strips:
  • - $4.80 per sheet of 28 strips.
  • - no minimum order required
  • - various colours available
  • - fax order to Tiffany in Health Records section, she sends invoice with package.

NRDGP Library has Info Pack re this: Manual, 12min video, order forms etc, available for anyone to view, borrow, get us to fax/mail you relevant details etc.

Could you please provide me with info on the requirements for archiving of paperfiles. Any info about the laws, regulations, periods, conditions etc.

One of my present assignments entails me to draft a set of systems and procedures that will be used by the finance department in
maintenance of office records and files;
indexing of files;
categorization of files into annual and permanent; use of standard sized stationery;

I am doing an assignment.
The question is to produce an outline of procedures fo all staff to follow to assist with the maintenance of files. This outline will be considered for an inclusion in a Records Keeping Policy.
