It is good to give children a present at the end of a consultation, either as a reward for cooperation or as encouragement for next time.

Rather than using lollies, which sets a poor example, a longer lasting treat is the wooden tongue depressor used in the examination. I still remember receiving one when a child to use for magic tricks, & I thought the doctor very generous. A quickly drawn happy face on one child, and a sad face on the other side, provides amusement all the way home.

I use "Mr Spatula" every day with enormous success. To the point that parents tell me that children look forward to see me because they know that they Mr Spatula. I also give the various of it, wich are Mrs Spatula, Baby spatula etc.

Have a great day!

Fabian
