You have decided to get serious step at improving your golf and you have booked a lesson with a golf professional. To help you get the most from your golf instruction I have made a list of 8 points to make the experience a profitable one for your golf.
- If it is at all possible, make sure you warm up before your lesson. This will ensure you get the maximum value out of your lesson instead of wasting time warming up during the lesson. You really donít want to waste the first 5 minutes of your lesson warming up.
- Make sure you inform your instructor of any physical ailments you have that may affect your golf swing. This will assist your instructor in making any changes to your swing.
- Write down what you have learned in your own words as soon as you can after the lesson. This will help ensure you remember the information ( statistics say if you write it down you are more likely to retain the information ) and give you a reference to go back to at some future date.
- If you donít understand what your instructor is saying donít pretend that you do. Let the instructor know you donít understand and he will then be able to explain the point differently so that you do understand.
- Ask questions. If you think of a question before your lesson make sure you write it down so you donít miss out on the opportunity of getting an answer. Instructors like students that ask questions.
- Make sure you practice what you have learned before your next lesson.
- Donít book lessons a week apart unless you have been able to practice 3 or more times in between lessons. It is far better to space the lessons apart and give yourself the chance to work on your swing fault.
- Get your instructor to help set a series of goals for you to achieve. The secret to goal setting is to make some small short term goals and use these as stepping stones to achieving your major goal. e.g.
| SHORT TERM GOAL | Practice my chipping and putting twice a week | | SHORT TERM GOAL | Practice at golf range three times per week. | | SHORT TERM GOAL | Play two rounds of golf a week | | MAJOR GOAL | Reach a 9 handicap by 1/12/97 |
