When You Really Need To Bust One From The Tee

Before you attempt to hit a manufactured shot (hook, draw, slice or fade),it is important you understand the following concept.

  • Always aim your clubface where you want the ball to finish.

  • Always aim your feet, hips and shoulders where you want the to start.

  • Always swing the club in line with your feet.
This is a simple concept, and it really applies to all golf shots.

To hit an intentional hook or draw you must:

  1. Aim your clubface where you would like the ball to finish.

  2. Aim your feet hips and shoulders where you would like the ball to start.

  3. Swing the club in line with your feet.

  4. Visualize the club going across the ball away from your body.

  5. Swing slightly slower than normal

  6. Allow less club than normal as the ball will tend to run on landing due to the amount of over spin imparted by this shot.

  7. Control the amount of draw by varying how far to the right your feet, hips & shoulders are aiming.

PART TWO

Many people who find it difficult to hit a draw fail to use their right hand during the downswing.

Many of my fellow golf Pros actually teach people to use their left hand during the golf swing.

I differ greatly from that in my teaching.

My reasoning being, If you play golf right handed, your right hand is stronger than your left hand. Every body wants to hit the ball as far and as straight as they can. Why would you use your weak hand(the left)to help this??

I liken the left hand to being a passenger in a car. It just goes along for the ride. It may think it knows how to drive but it doesn't have any of the controls available to do it.

The right hand is the driver. It has all of the controls and mechanisms available to it and it is in total control over where the car is going.

By allowing your right hand to control your golf swing you will tend to hit the ball a little further, and straighter.

By the way. I don't believe you can use your right hand too much in the golf swing. There is the right amount or not enough.

If you start hooking when you use your right hand it means your grip needs some attention ( Click here to go to my article on how to grip the club ).

I hope this helps you to hit a draw more consistently.
