HUMIDIFIER - WATER BATHS |

STANDARDS:
* Humidification to be ordered by a medical officer and to be administered by either a registered nurse, enrolled nurse, physiotherapist or medical officer. * Humidification tubing to be sterilised and humidity bath to be changed every 3 days. * Thermostat wire to be cleaned with enviro wipes every 3 days and sterilise between patients. * Prescribed temperature setting (both tubing coil and base) will be checked and maintained hourly. * Water level will be checked regularly. * Water bottle will be discarded each 24 hours. OUTCOME: * Avoid drying of mucous membranes of patient with bypassed nasopharynx. * Assist in expectoration of tenacious secretions. * Patients will be assisted in hypothermia. * Patient will not have damaged airways from dry hot airflow. * Patient will not have introduction of bacteria from equipment. EQUIPMENT: 02/air admin device Humidifier set Mask or ETT/Trache connection Heater base H20 sterile R : 24.1 PROCEDURE: * Add H20 to humidifier bath and place on base. * Connect tubing to humidifier bath and attach base probes to bath and tubing. * Connect air/02 flow device. * Switch base on and adjust thermostat. * Attach mask/bodai to patient.
